The Fern Mark was created to build New Zealand’s business reputation in key international markets. By using the Fern Mark, NZTE, Tourism New Zealand and New Zealand businesses can tell a consistent story about New Zealand and increase international connections.
The more recognition there is for the Fern Mark and what it says about New Zealand in international markets, the more businesses will benefit from positive perceptions about what New Zealand has to offer.
The Brand Partner programme is run under the auspices of the New Zealand Way, a company jointly owned by NZTE and Tourism New Zealand.
Who can apply?
New Zealand companies that are operating internationally and that have a sustainable business model that demonstrates good business practice can apply to become brand partners. In order to ensure the Fern Mark is associated with companies that share its values, applicants must meet certain standards. Suitability is ascertained by a Qualmark assessment process. The assessment process costs $1,000 plus GST.
Companies that have already been accepted into NZTE’s Beachheads or Better by Design programmes are pre-approved as brand partners, but must still fill out a licence agreement.
How to apply?
To apply for inclusion in the Brand Partner programme, follow the steps below.

- Answer the mandatory eligibility questions. If you answer correctly, you will be taken to a page to download the Brand Partnership programme application document. Save the document to your computer.
- Print the application form, fill it out and send it to one of the addresses provided.
