Business training services

Businesses are only as successful as their owners and managers. In an ever-changing world it is essential that you actively build your management capabilities.

New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) is currently implementing a nationwide network of regional partner organisations that will assess local businesses. They will then point businesses to development services that meet their needs, and may provide capability vouchers to eligible businesses to partially cover the cost of these services.

Our aim is to make it easier for small business owners and managers to understand what steps they should take to grow their business, and where to find information and assistance to do so.

This network of regional partners is expected to be operating in most regions from the end of September 2010.

In the meantime, if your business has fewer than 50 employees you may be eligible to have half the cost of a relevant management capability training course or workshop reimbursed by NZTE, up to a maximum of $250 (including GST).

Management Training Assistance Scheme

NZTE’s Management Training Assistance Scheme is available to eligible businesses whose owners or managers attend a relevant management capability training course or workshop between 1 July 2010 and 30 September 2010.

You will need to submit an application for reimbursement of 50 percent of your management capability training attendance fee (up to a maximum of $250 including GST) by 30 October 2010.

Download the application form

This means that if you attend an eligible training workshop or course and spend $500 (inc GST) on the fee you can apply for reimbursement of $250 (inc GST).  If you spend $600 (inc GST) you can apply for reimbursement of $250 (inc GST).

We suggest you talk to your local biz Information provider, Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Agency, Business New Zealand, or other business organisation to find out what management capability training is available in your region.

We also encourage you to complete an assessment of your business using a tool such as the New Zealand Business Capability Assessment. This will help you develop a plan to grow your business, after which you can talk to local advisors about the best way to progress it.

If you are a training provider or a business owner/manager and have a specific question about the Management Training Assistance Scheme, please email info@nzte.govt.nz. However, NZTE is unable to offer pre-approval of courses or applicants for this scheme so businesses need to make the final decision on whether to apply.
